Where It All Began - 1997

Every great brand begins with conviction.

In 1997, in Chennai, India, Mr. Bala Murugan founded SLT India as part of an international sporting-goods trading network. From the outset, the company worked in close collaboration with Weston Corporation, Singapore, facilitating the import and distribution of sporting equipment from Singapore into the Indian market.

This early exposure to global standards shaped SLT India’s foundation-establishing disciplined sourcing practices, consistent quality benchmarks, and a professional approach to retail partnerships at a time when such structure was uncommon in the industry.

What began as a focused trading operation steadily gained momentum. Through reliable execution, deep market understanding, and a hands-on approach to retailer relationships, SLT India grew into one of the most trusted suppliers of sports goods in the region.

But the real inflection point came when the company chose to move beyond trading-and pursue a far more ambitious vision.

Challenging Perceptions. Building Belief. - 2011

In 2011, at a time when the Indian market strongly associated Chinese products with inferior quality, SLT India took a bold and unconventional step-introducing and developing Li-Ning badminton equipment in India. It was not an easy journey. The challenge was never distribution-it was mindset.

Indian consumers were hesitant. Retailers were cautious. Acceptance had to be earned, not assumed. SLT India invested deeply in athlete validation, dealer education, on-court credibility, and long-term brand building. Every step focused on proving performance before asking for trust. Over time, perceptions shifted.

What began as skepticism evolved into confidence, and the brand witnessed strong momentum and market adoption. That chapter stands as a defining moment in the company’s history-demonstrating SLT India’s ability to introduce unfamiliar brands, challenge market bias, and build belief through structured execution.

Building the Backbone of Indian Badminton - 2017

In 2017, SLT India evolved again-restructuring into a full-scale sports distribution company with a focus on long-term brand development.

The company went beyond selling products. It built ecosystems-logistics, service infrastructure, dealer education, and scalable distribution models. Multiple international badminton brands were introduced and grown with this philosophy. As the organization matured, so did its vision.

With the second generation stepping in, the company was reshaped and renamed: SPACE GOODS

A New Identity - 2020

Under SPACE GOODS, the company became vertically integrated-spanning manufacturing, marketing, sales, and multi-level distribution.

By 2020, SPACE GOODS had emerged as the 3rd largest distributor of badminton equipment in India, serving 1,600+ sports counters nationwide through a deeply entrenched distribution network.

Years of building brands from the ground up offered a rare advantage: an insider’s understanding of what truly works-and what doesn’t. That experience sparked a new ambition.

The Birth of KATANA - 2023

After decades of building, scaling, and strengthening some of the most recognized badminton brands in the country, SPACE GOODS reached a defining realization: True performance is not created by branding alone. It is created by the technology inside the racket.

In 2023, KATANA was born-not as an extension of market trends, but as a response to a gap the industry had slowly overlooked. While innovation accelerated on the surface, the core of performance-materials, structural integrity, and energy transfer-had become diluted. KATANA set out to change that.
